I’ve learned that everything has a time and a place. We have grown accustomed to immediate results in this digital age and somehow, this has caused us to forget that sometimes, we need to be patient even while we do the work. For instance, exercise is a game of patience. Working out today will not mean that you see muscle today. Working out tomorrow will not mean you will see muscle tomorrow. In fact, there will be many days where you work out and you will not see the direct results. Sometimes the result is intrinsic. Sometimes working out means that you feel better, stronger, more energetic. Sometimes the feeling is enough to keep you going. Unfortunately, it isn’t always this easy. Sometimes you wanna quit because you don’t see the results. You don’t see the point of behaving yourself. You don’t see why you should continue when you’ve tried for so long and still don’t see any change. Sometimes the world around you assists with your disappointment by reminding you of what everyone else’s progress looks like. Please DON’T lose heart.
There is a difference between patience and waiting. I talk a lot about the things you can and can’t control. When it comes to your own life, you can control what you think and what you feel to a degree but you can definitely control what you do. You have a choice in everything you do. You can respond or react and both are choices. In your own life, doing what you must in order to get to where you want to be has to become a habit. It is in these habits that patience is a virtue. To me it means that you persevere and continue to put in the work whether you see the results right away or not because you know that in the end there is a payoff. It is in this space that we are told to be patient as everything comes together.
Patience is not about the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.
When it comes to the other aspects of your life, however, it doesn’t seem like patience but rather that you’re standing still and waiting. These situations usually don’t give you a choice but to wait. Waiting for outside influences to settle, for other people to do their part, for something to pass. Perhaps, you are waiting for someone to realize your worth so that you both can move forward. Perhaps, you are waiting for a project to finish at work so that you can have more time free up for you. Maybe you’re simply waiting for a sign or a miracle. In these moments, waiting can feel like slow torture. As if the world is forcing you to stand still until what you’re waiting for is resolved. Please DON’T stand still.
Things that are out of your control are just that and you must not let them control you. Standing still in these moments will only make you lose sight of your own goals. These situations are usually meant to trip you up. While you wait, continue doing. Do what you need to do whether you feel like it or not. Try not to focus on what you are lacking but rather what you have to gain in that space. Just because you are waiting doesn’t mean you have to hit pause on your life. If you’re like me, you’ve spent far too long waiting for the right time, the right circumstances. Now that I’ve begun my journey there will inevitably be moments where I’m tested on my resolve to complete what I’ve started. Continue! Keep going even if it is just slow and steady. Your due season is coming. Have faith! You got this, Queen!
