We all know that one negative Nancy that doesn’t seem to understand why every business she opens, fails and every relationship she has goes to shit. She blames it on everyone else. She never takes the time to reflect on why her life and her business seems to be a hot mess, at best.
So what sets super-successful Entrepreneurs apart from the struggling Negative Nancie’s?
It’s not money, or brilliant ideas, or more ambition or even powerful friends.
All of those things are nice, but they’re not a requirement of success. What is, is a positive mindset. Without the proper mindset, you’ll constantly be battling your limiting beliefs, and that can become pretty exhausting and detrimental to not only your business but your life.
-
You’ll allow yourself to believe your ideas are no good and you’re not worthy of happiness or success.
-
You’ll remain convinced that you aren’t smart enough, good enough or pretty enough. Don’t believe that shit, YOU are enough!
-
You’ll be certain that someone else did it (whatever “it” is) better than you or is already doing it so you can’t.
And before you know it, your negative self-talk has talked you right out of launching your new program, products, writing your book, opening your business, etc. In no time at all, you’ll be back at your day job, working away on someone else’s dreams. And it’s all because you didn’t have the confidence or the mindset to create your own.
But a simple mindset change can make all the difference in the world!
Here are some tricks to get your mind right…
-
Dress for Success
Ladies, this one is for you. When we work at home, it’s easy to fall into a habit of wearing sweatpants and T’s to the “office.” And I am not judging you. In fact, I worked in my pajamas all day yesterday. After all, why dress up just for the dogs and my daughter’s hamster? Now that I’m thinking about it, I can’t even remember if I brushed my teeth. Don’t judge me; I chewed gum. Look, it’s okay to work in sweats every now and then, but you can see how this can quickly lead to feeling depressed or in a rut.
But if you’re looking for a quick and easy way to pick yourself up and to instantly shift your mindset in the right direction, ditch the yoga pants, and break out the red lipstick. You can even keep the messy bun and still get shit done. Just this alone, you will find that you will feel more professional, more confident, and sexier, too. Who doesn’t want to boost their confidence with a little bit of sexy?
2. Don’t Let Fear Dictate Your Decisions
Too many entrepreneurs operate with a scarcity mindset rather than approaching business from a place of abundance. Rather than telling yourself that you can’t afford to hire a virtual assistant or work with a coach, or buy that Training Course, try adjusting your thoughts.
Rather than thinking, “I can’t afford to go on that business trip,” ask yourself, “How can I earn money to invest in myself and my company?”
By adjusting your thoughts, you’ll turn that negative money talk into positive thoughts that help you grow.
3. Find 10 min a day to sit in silence or Meditate
When you’re an Entrepreneur or just a woman in general, you have so many thoughts dancing around in your head. Your “To Do List” seems endless and the worries are constantly nagging you. Take a break from your day, sit in a beautiful and peaceful space. Maybe it’s the park, your backyard, your porch or just in your bedroom. And sit in silence for 10 min. Try concentrating and visualizing a blank movie screen and every time your thoughts wander take notice of them briefly and then readjust your thoughts right back on the blank movie screen. The more you do this, the easier it gets to control your wandering thoughts.
4. Gratitude Journal
Every day writes at least five things you are grateful for. Be really specific. For instance, I am grateful that I worked from home and was able to make my kids breakfast and drop them off at school this morning. While some may not find gratitude in something like that, after working in Corporate America for 15 years and not being able to do this because I would work 10-12 hour a day. My kids were still sleeping when I left for work. I find this to be extremely rewarding. Writing what you are grateful for every day is very powerful because in the space of gratitude a lack mindset cannot reside.
5. Affirmations
Try using affirmations, but the trick to using them successfully is to make sure that your sub-consciousness can accept them as truth. So if I were to say, “I am skinny” when I know I have struggled with my weight my entire life. It’s very unlikely I will be able to accept this as truth so it would end up having no lasting effect on my mindset. However, if I tweak it and say something like, “Every day I get more fit and healthy” that is much more believable to me, and I can eventually accept that as truth.
Try implementing these 5 activities into your week and see the big changes it will have on creating a positive mindset. Because in the end, it doesn’t matter how great your products or your business ideas are, if your mind isn’t right, your business isn’t going to be either.
